GRAND OPENING OF "ULTRA" AT KiSS (309 K' RD) - 26 JAN 2008
In November last year, KiSS Bar (309 K' Rd) launched a brand new, Friday-only gay club night called "Fluffy", targeting Auckland's early night drinking crowd with fun, "Fluffy"-style, vocal and commercial house, free nibbles and "Fluffy" entertainment.
As expected, there were the usual grumblings about cliche gay bars and Auckland being too small to support another gay bar! But fortunately for Auckland's gay clubbing scene, "Fluffy" has proven that having more gay venues does not take people away from the existing ones, it merely gives people more options when going out, and in general, attracts new and different people onto the scene.
Now, with the success of "Fluffy" Fridays, KiSS Bar looks to complete its transformation into a full-time gay venue on Saturday January 26.
Venue owner, Steve Lee says, "Our final plans for KiSS are taking shape now. During the day we run as a very gay-friendly, Asian-fusion cafe / restaurant called 309. On Friday nights we become FLUFFY, and from Saturday 26 January we'll be ULTRA every Saturday night!"
"ULTRA" launches on January 26 as a Saturday-only gay club night, again targeting the early night drinking crowd, but with a slightly more serious take on music style combined with fun, integrated shows and entertainment each week.
ULTRA's Grand Opening kicks off at 9pm and features one of Auckland’s finest, DJ Donald Bennett, along with recently announced Mardi Gras DJ - Marty.
For those who haven't been to the recently-renovated KiSS Bar before, expect a fun-filled atmosphere combining Zen-style designer bar, timber floors, dancing podiums, a pole (for the pole-dancers amongst you) and a comfortable indoor / outdoor smoking lounge with great views of K' Rd.
